WEATHER SERVICES TO THE PUBLIC

The Public Weather Services is endowed with a public task of protecting life and property. It provides coherent range of weather information and weather-related warnings that enable the public to make informed decisions in their day- to- day activities, thus contributing to the protection of life and property.

Goals

  • To build up a high level of awareness of hazards and preparedness and how to deal with them
  • To increase weather literacy and interest on meteorological topics in general and ensure that warnings and forecasts provided by the Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services (DCCMS) and understood by intended user.
  • To strengthen relationships between members of the hazards community emergency authorities and the media in order to minimize the potential for misinterpretation of information and communication of misinformation to the public.
  • To provide information to the public on the role of the Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services (DCCMS),what types of products and services are available and how to obtain them.

2. TV weather & Radio broadcasting programme

  • Equipment acquisition for dissemination of information (TV Weather studio).
  • Staff training programmes to cater for required level of service and provide skills.
  • Innovation in providing services meeting the requirements of the public.

3. Early warning and Disaster Management

DCCMS as a major data provider plays a role in preparedness phase by ensuring availability of critical warning information and effective Early Warning Systems (EWS)
